Where He Isn’t

Ann Voskamp's "Where He Isn't"

Personal Note:

I live in doubt 24/7.

Well that’s honest in my current heart workings.

Can anyone relate?

What’s so God, soooo incredible is that in the desperate seeking,

I choose JOY.

If doubt is the lie we believe, then joy is the ______ we believe.

(The teacher in me could not resist a fill-in-blank.  ;))

A Slice of Humble Pie

humility

I love this quote. I remember vividly my first stirrings to rise. It’s an amazing feeling that grows into a desire to be part of something bigger than yourself. As faith matures, you want to grow “up” ascending nearer to God. Oh, how I wanted to rise up high!!!

Humility takes on a life of it’s own when it settles into the heart-life. As servant love intersects God’s work, a mystery of Kingdom power enters into the dynamic. There humility rises above our humanity into the heights of “on earth as is in heaven.”

There humility “pierces the clouds” of our perspective and we experience a rise into the breathing space of our Lord’s Throne Room. I’ve en-joyed such humility in places such as mopping floors, prayer, on stage, respecting an adult “child,” a sponge-bath in a hospital bed, biting my directional tongue with my husband, nursing a baby in the night, saying the words “will you forgive me?” and feeling it to my toes, looking into a set of grieving eyes, scrubbing stains off floors, receiving extravagant gifts in time/love/financial/support. . .

There humility grows us “up” small in the presence of a BIG love building HIS Kingdom one heart at a time.

Servant Love + God’s Hand at Work = 3 Dimensional Kingdom Humility

A Diamond Under Pressure

90ca7287c8af4343dfc6bbcda762643e

When we long for life without difficulties, remind us that oaks grow strong in contrary winds and diamonds are made under pressure.
Peter Marshall

Dedicated to my jewel of a husband, Rodger H. Elofson “Bucky”

He serves. He gives. He perseveres. Daddy advice on cars, classes, “can I send you a picture of this weird thing on this friend of a friend’s leg and you help her?”, leaky faucets, every boo-boo and illness under the sun, a few fender bumper calls, money money and more money, plane tickets, directions/I’m lost, bugs and more creepy crawlies, sign this, mail that, “could you call, they’ll listen to you”, necklace tangles. . .Husband cares through early morning/late night tears, four tube feedings/day, numerous transfers, pharmacy issues, doctor consults, comfort tendings that change by the moment, watching “girl” tv, learning hair dressing styles, marathon showers, hugs I can’t return, high maintenance needs like where do I spray this perfume again?, computer fixes, endless pillow props, drives back and forth  forth and back to Houston in our handicapped access red convertible 😉 . . .He does hold down a full time job. . .He has an occasional guy’s card night. . .And he remembers to return a tennis ball OVER the net a time or two.

See what I mean? He has a few facets going on. . .

Tea Time: March 11, 2014: The Wall of Fear: Part II

I experience the worldly, “fleshly” side of self in it’s full blown intensity. It’s just how I’m made. I’m passionate about life, so I feel things deeply. Maybe some of you can relate. Regardless of how your feelings fall on our continuum, we’ve all got flesh/feelings to process through to discover emotional maturity and our greater spiritual selves. I refuse to minimize our heart lives and I refuse to minimize our spirit-filled identity. I might add here our  own Jesus was both fully human and fully divine. We are some imperfect mix. . .”messy glory”. . .made to reflect Him through a glass darkly:

1 Corinthians 13:12

King James Version (KJV)

12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

That girl curled up in a ball of misery? The intensity of the darkness?  The thick wall of fear holding us on the inside of our journey. Things are not as they appear. Break through that intimidating wall of fear into more of our destiny. From a Kingdom perspective. . .

Doing Faith afraid can be stepping through and beyond the wall into. . .

An Epic Story

I’ve always loved C.S. Lewis and his created Narnia since I read it in middle school and then read the full series to my girls. I relate strongly to Lucy for many reasons. Beginning with her being the youngest. . . .

I’ve been drawn to this concept of epic for months, I believe I know now why. You must know. Words reveal the very heart of God for you. Obviously, when inspired by love.

GOD sees your life’s journey as a long poem, one narrating the adventures of you, the heroic figure in the making of His legendary Kingdom. Do you feel epic?  Do you feel heroic? Do you feel your life is an adventure?

I’m thinking about our pastor and his wife leaving the pulpit in their “twilight” years to pursue missionary work. I’m thinking about a young couple that carry all their children in tow with a bus when mom is not home schooling and dad is not working and raising chickens. I’m thinking of a man serving his life as a fire-fighter, saving lives, vibrant in his retired life with the passion of sailing. Jim told me at our last ALS clinic together, better him with this disease than one of his siblings. Jim is writing his own epic version of The Journey of the Dawn Treader waters of heaven that challenge his horizon.as we speak. I dare say, C.S. Lewis is penning out Jim’s first victory sail across the blazingly blue waters of heaven that challenge his horizon.

Jim, Janelle. . .the following epic tale youtube is dedicated to you. Jim’s heroic adventure’s reach far beyond this world now into unseen waters.

Your life, Jim’s poem of his life, home schooling, missionary work. . .now where the rubber meets the road . . .where The Cross engages the ground of our humanity. . . so stay with me here. . .

“The ground is level at The Cross.”  ~  Murphy Toerner

The growth curve on that wisdom is limitless. Just one facet on it is. . .get out of the comparison game. Missionary work is no higher than laundry. Intense health struggles are no deeper than a marathon. Home schooling is no greater love than public education. Different yes, but each one of you, it’s own epic poem in the making. GOD sees in you a journey worth the taking. In you, we experience a story in the waking. (Just could not resist the rhyme ;))

You are an epic journey in the HANDS OF AN ALMIGHTY GOD. Do not sell yourself short of this God-breathed narration of your Kingdom Story!!!
